The style of the building is contemporary. It is an elegantly designed building comprised of dark brown and beige brick surfaces with portions of dark gray, light grey, frame and white shiplap siding surfaces. These are accented with smokey blue and natural wood frame and fin wall structures.
Located on Chapman Ave one block south of the Twinbrook Metro Station, the Escher comprises one component of a 5 acre, two-block, urban design ensemble. It is a 317-unit podium and wood stick frame construction courtyard apartment building that is designed to work together with the second phase grouping of townhomes.
Each one of the four corners is punctuated differently; the entry corner with a 45-degree diagonal cut that offers a glimpse in the amenity courtyard, the north west corner with a stack of balconies and the secondary ‘metro’ entry, and the east corners with 2 different configurations of stacked balconies. The courtyard facades are no less visually rich but accomplish that richness with a beige panel instead of the brick, and with superimposed balconies instead of the bay windows.
The scale is modulated vertically by being comprised of a ground floor of dark brown brick, surmounted by 4 stories of beige brick, and capped by an attic story of Hardi-plank in the light and dark gray frame and white wall surface. The length of the building is modulated in two ways: with portions of brick interrupted by cuts into the surface revealing the attic story gridded wall surface beneath the brick, and with overlapping bays that lie over the top of the brick surface.
