Oro at Ballantyne (Block A) is a 27-story, mixed-use residential tower that anchors the transformation of Ballantyne Corporate Park, a 535-acre suburban office district in Charlotte, North Carolina, into a vibrant, walkable, mixed-use destination. As a cornerstone of the Ballantyne Reimagined master plan, Oro introduces 356 apartment residences and 15,000 square feet of retail, adding residential density, street-level energy, and lifestyle amenities that help shift Ballantyne from a single-use employment center into a complete urban neighborhood.
By combining high-density residential, ground-floor retail, and an active public realm in a walkable environment, the project fundamentally reshapes how the district functions. It supports local businesses through increased foot traffic, attracts new employers and residents seeking an urban lifestyle outside the city center, and strengthens Ballantyne’s competitive position within the regional real estate market.
Oro at Ballantyne makes a unique and catalytic contribution to the region by introducing a level of density, mix of uses, and urban character previously absent from the area. As the tallest building in the region outside of Charlotte’s urban core, Oro establishes a new visual and economic landmark for South Charlotte, signaling Ballantyne’s evolution from a suburban office park into a true mixed-use destination.
In this way, Oro is not simply a building, but a catalyst for long-term economic diversification, placemaking, and sustainable growth. The project increases the residential density of the Ballantyne Reimagined area, bringing a liveliness to the new retail corridor of Bowl Street outside of the 9 to 5 established by the existing nearby office uses. Its residents also provide a stabilizing presence creating a neighborhood with continuity beyond the more variable base of visitors to the nearby Ballantyne Hotel and the seasonal attendees of concerts at The Amp.
