Ensuring the project contributes to the vibrancy and pedestrian activity of this historic neighborhood, a new three story building and the historic structure and façade offer storefronts for retail and restaurants along King Street. Hotel and spa guests reach the reception lobby through a canopied courtyard adjacent to these storefronts and with its own street presence.
Located on King Street in Historic Old Town Alexandria, The Lorien Hotel and Spa includes 150 guest rooms, dining facilities including two restaurants and a gourmet food store.
The program is contained within a complex comprised of a new six story building, a new three story building, a renovated historic structure and a preserved historic façade.
The six story building was designed to fit within the existing fabric and scale of Old Town through a subtle massing exercise that steps the building back behind the historic fronts. The architectural vocabulary borrows from the surrounding context by way of masonry details, cornices embellishment, windows pattern and details.
