The Rixey at Marymount University

The Rixey—a name inspired by the personal physician to both Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt—sits on the original site of the iconic “Blue Goose” building—a light blue, 1960s era structure that housed Marymount University’s graduate school. The LEED Gold-certified building is the 255,000 SF residential/retail component of a mixed-use development that includes an adjacent academic/office building. The 15-story, 267-unit, residential building utilizes a variety of materials—masonry, steel, and glass—to create a light, contemporary urban aesthetic. The overall project goal was to coordinate a relationship between the two prominent buildings. This was achieved with a 10,600 sf public plaza and pedestrian passageway.

The plaza features a series of seating areas bordered by elliptical-shaped dividers covered in mosaic tiles. Blue and white panels—depicting the life cycle of the historic Blue Goose and made from its façade—line the passageway. The panels are also reused in the seating and lighting throughout the courtyard. These calming elements—coupled with natural landscaping—offer a place of quiet refuge from the bustling city.

Amenities include a large ground-floor lounge featuring a fireplace clad in metal panels, a variety of individual and group break out spaces, and entrance to blue glass-walled ftness center. Additional amenities include club room and courtyard, and rooftop lounge complete with grilling stations and private cabanas.
