The Parker

Alexandria, VA

First residential building in a phased project. Upon completion, three buildings will be the residential component of a large mixed-use development. The project serves as a transition from a low-scale residential and industrial neighborhood to the high-density neighborhood emerging around the Huntington Metro.

The design is based on a repetition of small cells reminiscent of the succession of row houses in traditional urban neighborhoods—each cell encompasses the rationality of a complete building: base, middle and top, and once they are chained in a sequence the overall composition has a rhythmic quality. The end result is an intimate street facade anchored by distinctive corner elements that serve as beacons for the pedestrian.
