Rowan

Rowan is a nine-story, 353-unit, pet-friendly, luxury multifamily development in the Brookland neighborhood. It has 27 affordable units, 85 below-grade parking spaces, and boasts 15,300 square feet of residential amenity split between three floors. These include a gym and workout terrace, a coworking space, a second-floor enclosed courtyard, and rooftop club room, terrace, and pool that take advantage of the great views of the Washington Monument.

The project objective was to create a multifamily space that marries urban with suburban, while providing the infrastructure for a sustainable lifestyle for its residents. The site was originally underused, home to a blighted auto shop. Now, located just a seven-minute walk from D.C.’s Rhode Island Metro station, Rowan attracts an abundance of families and young professionals to the neighborhood.

Rowan incorporated sustainable design strategies to minimize the community’s environmental impact. Targeting LEED certified, and achieving LEED Silver, the project’s rainwater management system and multiple bioretention areas protect and restore the natural habitat.
