Chase Point

Washington, DC

The community of Chase Point is located corner of Military and Western Avenue less than one block from the heart of Friendship Heights. The surrounding architectural language is very diverse and helped frame the design for the site. Tall buildings of many different uses and architectural languages lie Northwest of the site, and to the southeast lies a neighborhood of mostly single family homes. The building mediates between the busy area North and West of the site, and the quiet residential area to the South. The architectural challenge was to establish a strong presence on the urban street, while at the same time scaling back to the residential neighborhood and the community park.

Construction
Concrete Frame High Rise

The residential units combine the refinement of luxury condominiums with contemporary explorations of space and light. Unit layouts are more open and free than the usual high-end residential condominiums. Wide and deep balconies, high ceilings and large expanses of glass feel contemporary while keeping flavor of a real DC building.

In terms of urban design, by locating the building at the Western Avenue edge of the property we were able to provide the community with a public space. The main entrances to the building open onto this green space and invite the energy into the building. Through the sensitive approach to the design process, the building was able to enhance Friendship Heights by holding the urban street and softening in the rear to complement the community park.
