Avalon Mosaic

Fairfax, VA

Avalon Mosaic is a pioneer residential building in the one of the nation’s top urban infill “live, work, play” communities. As part of the Mosaic District Redevelopment, Avalon Mosaic is designed to complement the architectural character of surrounding buildings and to be sensitive to the material, color, and scale. Wood over podium construction that includes over 40,000 square feet of retail is key in creating a walkable urban village. The facade organization helps to define the character of the building by regulating scale, massing and facade rhythms. The tripartite division of base, middle, and top may be further subdivided into smaller parts to create an engaging pedestrian experience. The corner elements anchor the facade to the ground with flexible and uninterrupted storefront organization in between. The corner elements extend towards the middle of the facade creating a welcoming public plaza.

Along with Mosaic Modera, the buildings are designed around private courtyards that provide a variety of spaces where residents can extend living to the outdoors. Thoughtfully designed studio, 1- and 2- bedroom apartment homes, lofts and penthouses along with 11,000 square feet of innovative amenities attract a wide demographic to the rapidly expanding Mosaic District.
